WHAT IS DESTRATIFICATION?
The principles of thermodynamics tell us that in an indoor environment, where gravity is the dominant force at work, hot air tends to rise to the ceiling. This means that all that hot air your HVAC system is pumping out is simply traveling to the ceiling, and not effectively warming your working environment. This leads to an uneven layering of temperatures in your facility, where the hot air is trapped at the ceiling and your ground level workspace is left uncomfortably chilly.
This layering of temperatures is known as STRATIFICATION, or the arrangement or classification of something into different strata (strata means layers). When it comes to achieving a comfortable working environment, having all the heat trapped at the ceiling is ineffective and, worst of all, expensive. In the cold winter months, using an HVAC system alone to heat a building is almost literally throwing money away: the hot air you are paying for is ineffective.

In this way, HVLS fans DESTRATIFY, or mix, the air in an environment, creating a more uniform, comfortable space.
According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, “High volume, low speed (HVLS) fans are a prominent and practical means for reducing the floor-to-ceiling temperature gradient in large spaces.”
